The Apple hasn’t fallen far from the Tree. For a moment there, I thought Iwas seeing Jackie do some late-night heroics while Jan was talking to her sensei. Jan & Jackie even have the same scowl.
Also, nice deflection on the Sensei’s part about where he hides the TV ;).
I suspect that the TV is hidden (& was in Jan’s time) because “TV is an unnecessary distraction from your training.”
All Jackie needs now is a gear upgrade. Which should wait until after training, so that it’s a reward. Too bad it’s not summer break; training would be easier if Jackie didn’t have to worry about school at the same time.
That’s is if Jackie’s going to be trained here as a superhero. Janice might just drag her daughter here a civi and start training her that way she could manage to make sure her daughter’s safe and no encourage her into heroics.
Thou, its also possible that Jackie won’t be attending Chin’s estate at all.
Assuming Miss Melee allows “Kid Melee” to join her, where Jackie gets training matters less than that Jackie gets training. Jan may be unhappy about Jackie doing hero-work, but she’ll be a lot less worried if Jackie has proper training under her belt. Given the history shown above, Jan herself once worked without training. She knows the difference it made in her own experience, she’ll get her daughter into training. Jan doesn’t have time for three jobs (especially since two of them would have to be kept from Mark); Master Chin is a known element (for Jan), a competent teacher (obviously), and seems willing to entertain the possibility; most importantly, he’s already trained (at least) one teenage heroine, and Jackie has a great deal of her mother in her. Simply put, without further info from the author, Master Chin is (imho) the best option for training Jackie available; regardless of which identity puts Jackie there (& either way is feasible), Chin is almost certainly going to be involved, probably directly instructing. You do put forth a good argument for why Jan (as opposed to Miss Melee) should be the one to introduce Jackie to Master Chin, however.
I wont be surprised to find out that while Jan had natural talent for butt whupping that she gets he tail kicked severely ala Kick Ass and is either rescued my Master Chin or realizes she’s gonna get killed without proper training.
Heh… The more I think about it, this is less a conversation between Master and former Student and more one between Parent and Adult Child. Master Chin’s bemused attitude is not unfamiliar to me. 🙂

Pardon the wall-o-text. Seems I got carried away.
I love that look in the second to last panel. The awkward “this conversation is not going how I planned, and darn it he has a point”
That and the look on his face as he gives the verbal equivalent of a Noogy.
Love the colors on that last panel!
How is Jackie going to be trained? Chin, Janice or Miss Melee? Is she going to be brought here to train or not? I need to know.
Can’t wait to see how this story turns out…
So I WAS right. He has a TV. 😀
Good call.

I’m gonna throw out a WAG and say that was probably her first encounter with Kharava. That mess had to start somewhere.

I don’t know what the heck this comic is it is but I am interested
