On the contrary, his quick retort to that comment means he have thought of it, and possibly also heard it before, and STILL kept it.
Really, i think his comment on “artistic license” makes him the best of the feline(?)-themed villains thus far.
^_^
Poles don’t actually make that good of weapons. They are decent on unarmored opponents, but Kid Melee has a fair bit of padding on her arms and legs (and possibly a helmet under that bandana).
.
Also, aside from the strike she blocked, it looks like he missed every time.
“Poles don’t actually make that good of weapons.”
*Actually*, they do. Very good weapons. In armed combat, they are top tier among those not obviously made for the battlefield (which are primarily… poles with extra bits of nasty on the ends, actually).
The benefit of knives is concealability, useability in small spaces, and the ability to kill a helpless victim quickly. The benefit of the sword is being better than a knife in nearly every way (except concealment) while still be easy to carry.
But once both sides have weapons out and it’s time for actual combat (as opposed to threatening the unarmed, producing a surprise weapon, or walking around for hours doing other things with your hands besides holding a weapon), I’d take a good pole over almost anything (other than a pole with extra things on the end, of course… or a gun, obviously).
And I make that statement based not just on what I’ve seen in my lifetime, but what I’ve seen in studying historical combat of many eras.
While she said she would take him down, I’m sure it’s occurred to Jackie that if she stalls for a bit, Miss Melee will have time to recover. I mean, she got slammed into a wall, that won’t keep a hero of her caliber down for long.
“Polecats aren’t even cats!”
“Kid… please point out which part of my costume that you’re so sure couldn’t possibly be inspired by any member of the weasel/ferret family? How sure are you that the dummy isn’t you for assuming internet lolcats inspired me to a life of violent crime?”
“…uh…”
In this case, running home to mommy would be counterproductive, not that Jackie knows that.
I think some guy is about to get skunked!
Jackie? For future reference, being reminded that he screwed up when choosing a theme name may be one of Polecat’s berserk buttons.

That is a point, though I’m still waiting to see an actual skunk themed superhero/supervillain in any media. He could call himself Musk Man.
Already happened. Stinkor. He-Man franchise.

“Look, I’m here to stop you, not diagnose your lifestyle issues.”
He has a very feline tail. Also, he has the same ridiculous glove as Night Lion and Lotus Lynx.
Polecats also have long, fur-covered tails, and claws.
There’s really no proof either way.
Given his sound effect in panel 2, one has to wonder why he didn’t go for Swat Cat… Licensing issues, probably.
Panel 3, ouch, good thing KM has those armored/padded gauntlets.
I’m sure Osaka Riot hits a lot harder than that during training. KM will be fine.
I wonder if she will steal his pole and show off some gymnastics moves.
Oh that would be cool, lets hope so!
