Here’s an out-there idea. That’s another hero who is there at Miss Melee’s request to broaden Jackie’s experience so she can face different fighting styles than OR’s or her mother’s. This is, of course, a hook for a later fight with Evil Lass
Tonfa blocks for the win. Still curious about the fore hand blows. there doesn’t seem to be any mechanical lock to prevent the ‘bo’ from just flipping back along it’s track when it hits, lessening the impact, unless of course contact was made with the fist, and the ‘bo’ snapped into place on the follow through. The hit in the last panel seems to have been made perpendicular to the weapon’s arc, providing support.
Sorry for the IRL mechanics thoughts, I love the character, and the action is tight. I guess, being a supers gamer, I’ve been forced through out the years to analyze things like this in order to ‘justify’ to various GM’s. 🙂
It could be that the batons are weighted- lead core, tip-weighted, or possibly with sliding lead shot or water cores, and they do swing freely- swinging out for thwacks, and back for blocks. Maybe just a ‘light’ spring lock or the hinge is slightly over-elevated to allow for pokes and elbow jabs.
Hmm. I didn’t think of the weighted part. It would mean a more open fighting style with wider swings to increase the momentum of the tonfa. This would make her more open to infighting techniques like Jet Li’s style of 6″ punches. (in The One).
Bigger, stronger, better trained, better weapons, better reach, better understanding of distance.
Kid, you’d better have something impressive up your sleeve, like a Taser

Maybe its time Jan starts training Jackie herself or introduces her to Master Chin.
tons of books and comics and such have guys named ‘Master Chin’ but their chins are never as big as the name would have you believe.

That’s what I was wondering — training exercise?
No, definitely not – Kid Melee specifically says she’s a “bad guy” on the last page.

Or squeezing the hand locks them in place
Jackie, you are not built for going toe-to-toe with bigger opponents. You built yourself skates: use them to be faster than your enemies.
She’s out of her weight class, skates won’t help her, she needs to bring in the big gun.
Got to give her that, she´s tough.
Silly Tonfa-Woman. Don’t you know the dumbest thing you can do in nature is mess with a cub, because Mama-Bear is never far behind.
It’s so not a fair fight. Duala has weapons, Kid Melee doesn’t!
“Fair fight”? What language are you speaking? The words do not make sense.
Kid Melee needs to scrounge up some Z87 rated lenses to put in her headgear. At the very least a better grade of polycarbonate.
