They’re fitted with live rounds? That’s incredibly unsound. I would think that the military would always side of the side of discretion and not have armed tools for a perspiration as there’s too many things that could go wrong. One misstep could result with them slipping and setting off their weapons into the crowd.
Anyways, Ms. Kennedy isn’t making much sense here. I wonder if she’s unwell or if the SABER is effecting her train of thought. I can’t wait to see how Jackie helps to bring her down.
Yeah, the live rounds would be loaded at the actual demonstration where safety is assured.
Also of note is if the General actually deploys armed response anywhere except where he has been mandated to do so by an act of Congress, it is open and shut for court martial at the very least.
She’s already endangered civilians. The soldiers here would be within legal bounds to detain Ms. Kennedy. The “threat” just tells them it’s not accidental; she intended to be here, & doesn’t care about negligent homicide. Of course, the battlesuited soldiers don’t have that luxury.
Gotta love the general with the chest full of medals. Of course, that’s more a problem with the current US military and it’s obsession with coming up with new ribbons to celebrate mediocrity and handing them out at the drop of a hat than anything else. From “good bowel movement NAMs” to “Bronze Stars for all my friends (combat V not included)” to the “haven’t deployed EVER but already at 1.5 rows” … it is just pathetic.
I see that giant block of medals and accolades, and the only thing I can think of is that one image of General Eisenhower taken right after WWII where he only has a single row of about 3 ribbons.
The more fruit salad, the bigger the nut, or some such.
It is an age old problem where the signs of merit outshine actual merit the more dysfunction the force became.
I remember reading up the disparity in how aces were recognized by the different forces. One required secondary and ground confirmation, Another just the work of a second observer, another awarded partial credit if more than one shot at the target, another gave anyone who shot at the target full credit (USofA)
I can see a lot of potential fun and story-telling here… but not on the “unarmed martial artist” scale that Miss Melee operates on. No unarmed baseline human being is going to be a threat to a person in sci-fi-style power armor that is worth fielding.
“Sure, I can shrug off full-auto machine gun fire, but that punch you hit me with really hurts!” Um, no.

I suspect they were going to do a live demonstration before they were interrupted.
That had accrued to me but the logic still stands. Don’t have live rounds when you don’t intend to use them.

The only way I could see a plot twist happening here is if Ironwood’s a cyborg. That would still give Jackie to show off her strengths.
I wonder if mister booty-soldier in the last panel is intentional fanservice XD
man, nobody ever gets on the case of ironmongers when there’s been a stabbing

The instant that face plate opened she should have been knocked out by a… Melee-rang?
Noticed the middle solder is missing his Zaku like Shoulder Shield.
