Mark: So what happened last night that brought this on anyway? Did she ask for a tattoo or to go on birth control because of some cute guy at high school or something and you said No?
Jan: Uh…….
Mark: Oh, did you finally tell Kid Melee over there that you were the original Ms. Melee?
Jan: What do you mean ORIGINAL?
Mark: Well, it is clear the current one is a lot younger than you are.
Jan: Wait! You knew and you didn’t say anything for all these years?
Mark: Sure I said stuff. I said, “I promise to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death us do part.” I meant it then and I mean it now.
She’ll talk when she’s ready. And that appears to be a slight smirk in the first panel, so it may even be she has a particular setting or theme in mind when the conversation happens.
Interesting to see the evolution in Ariel’s art style over time. Every webcomic that I’m aware of with a single or principal artist goes through similar changes over time, so it’s not a criticism, but the shape of Jan’s face has definitely changed since the days of her battle with Sabr: https://miss-melee.com/comic/4-7/
Seems to me Jackie is having major issues reconciling the hero worship she had with Miss Melee and her normal ideas of “Mom”.
It also feels a bit like the tired old trope of “You lied to me”, despite Jackie obviously knowing and accepting the concept of a secret identity. I’d normally cringe at the thought of “You should have told me, because I’m your daughter”, but she is a teenager, and they don’t always think clearly. Emotions are such a pain in the butt.
Not saying I wouldn’t have liked to see this go differently, and I suppose it still might, but right now it’s a bit predictable.

Not really a smirk. It’s just hard to represent chewing in a single panel drawing.
I can think of about eight reasons Jackie might be upset and need time to deal with all the issues.
Well I’m glad the cat’s finally outta the bag at least!
Jackie looks like a small child in the first panel. o.O
I hope this doesn’t drag on long. Maybe it’s time for Mark to step up?

You should read more Rex Morgan, MD. _Years_ can go by without anything happening in that strip.
