Show-offs never prosper, it appears. Still, Abby will thank the coach for this slap down eventually because it means she knows about this rule before she gets her first automatic disqualification because of this rule!
Am I the only one suspecting that, at some later point, Jackie will figure out Evil Lass’s real identity by recognizing her execution of this maneuver?
I’m sort of expecting the inverse to happen too. However, both of them know that they can’t risk their secret identities being revealed, so there is a really, really awkward change to their dynamic in school
Jackie: Abigail…
Abby: Jacqueline…
Both: I saw you yesterday. Don’t tell anyone or I will tell on you.
…
Both: This calls for ice cream and complaining about our parents.
…Huh, some quick googling shows that that move being banned is only kind of true…
The Thomas Salto got assigned a score of 0 due to the risks of completeing it, meaning that gymnasts were still allowed to do it, but it wouldn’t improve their score, making it a pointless (pun unintended) risk. And later, they banned all rollout skills (landing head down and rolling to their feet) which includes the Thomas Salto, but wasn’t specifically aimed at the Thomas Salto.
If top-of-the-line competitive athletes aren’t allowed to do the move because of the risks, why would liability-averse schools allow their students to take the same risks?
To be fair, she’d already done the move, so there wasn’t much that could be done about that, and humiliating her in front of her peers like that would probably be one of the greatest deterrents to a repeat performance…
That assistant coach really reminds me of Ruth from Dumbing of Age, the red hair the snarky attitude, the delight in others misfortune. But I cant see Ruth involved in any sport other than ice hockey.
That’s one way to get Jackie to feel better about herself.

HA!
Nicely unexpected

“But MO_OOOOOM…”
I’d love to see a bonus ‘gag’ strip of Miss Melee and Queen Evil complaining to each other about their daughters going through ‘a difficult stage’!
She may be her daughter but man does the Coah enjoy the hell out of that.
Abby’s not the assistance coach daughter.
….you are completely right. Seems like I had a brainfart that early in the morning.

No. She was awarded zero points. Because she used an illegal move. Basically it’s like writing a paper about Mark Twain and using fairytales to do it.
In the high school environment they’re in it’s probably specifically called out by name banning it due to the risks involved.

Assistant Coach snot-mouth doesn’t care about knocking out repeat performances, she just cares that she gets to humiliate Abby.

Just hit me.
That coach is Bouncy. Hair, freckles, expressions, everything fits.
