I suspect (but am happy to be corrected) that the techniques Rimi might have used in the ring are not necessarily the ones she uses on the street. Then again, I doubt the Fastball Special is the most practical cooperative move for Wolverine and Colossus, yet it seemed to work for them. 😉
The Fastball Special was something they came up with to get Logan to where he needed to be as quickly as possible, and for that it works. It’s nothing what would work against a speeder or highly nimble opponent who can see him coming. He also had Colossus powering the move, making it a fast, low parable throw, meaning he didn’t spend a long time in the air.
KM on the other hand is doing an acrobatic jump, and it’s very high. This means sh will spend a comparatively long time in the air, with no way to change her trajectory once her feet leaves the ground. This means there’s at least a few seconds for her opponent to react. In this case he simply have to be aware enough to roll over and KM would land on the concrete, possibly over rotating just a bit and crushing her knees. Not a good way to land.
Now I’m aware PoleCat just had a bad landing and might be a bit distracted, but two or three seconds is actually quite a lot of time, especially for someone trained to fight.
All in all big flashy moves are not what you want in a real fight. But as this is a Comicverse I’m sure things will be fine, eventually…
To be fair to KM, a sweep kick landed on an off balance opponent (she caught him with one leg still extended from that kick she ducked) can easily result with said opponent hitting their head on the ground as they fall backwards, which would at least stun them (could also be potentially lethal, unless his mask also has padding to function as a helmet). Even if you consider Polecat as a skilled fighter, which he appears to be, he was clearly overconfident and not expecting KM to counterattack like she did. Even if he has the trained reflexes to tuck his chin down so he doesn’t take a head blow from the landing he probably took an impact to the body from the fall (he was clearly off balance and not in a position to roll with it) to knock the wind out of him for a second or two, plus there’s the surprise factor (aforementioned overconfidence) so it could reasonably take him a few seconds to realize what just happened (aka a “wtf moment”).
KM’s jumping attack would realistically take only two or perhaps three seconds to land and, given her athletic ability, she obviously jumped right about the time Polecat hit the ground. I’m guessing he realized what she was doing just in time to think “Oh shi-” before she landed.
Considering he’s larger and physically stronger than she is, her tactics are completely valid. She fought defensively, waited for an opening, hit him at a weak point, and then landed a powerful blow while he was stunned. Such a jumping attack would have been stupid while he was on his feet and prepared, but with him down and immobile it’s the best way she can hit him the hardest, using gravity to add force to the blow since she’s smaller and physically weaker than him.
When her mom eventually gets around to training her to focus her chi and enhance her physical strength and toughness she’s going to be really dangerous.
It looks to me that she’s using the spin to put a little more speed and force into the impact. If you have an opportunity to land a heavy blow, why use the light attack?
She has to be careful, or she could find up disem-ball-ing her opponent.
On a side note, once the voice drops, it stays low, even if the source no longer provides the testosterone. Once the larynx grows due to the testosterone, it stays enlarged. I have heard former female athletes that abused steroids that still have baritone and bass voices even after years off the juice.
Awesome move. I have a pro wrestling e-fed character that uses the same move as a finisher. Said character also has a background in gymnastics, does it from the top turnbuckle, and calls it the Downfall. She also has a reputation for kicking male opponents in the junk (even won a midcard championship that way once).
Has OR been training her in Mui Tai? ’cause using her knees like that looks like a MT move. “Way of the Eight Limbs” and all that.
But yeah, I’ll agree with those saying she needed to build up momentum for that move- bigger, heavier guys can just sorta ‘drop’ on their knees to deliver a lot of force, but someone Jackie’s size would need that extra speed to be equivalent.

STOMP!!!
“I call that a couple of fractured ribs and PAIN!”
I call that a 5-star landing, Jackie… Hopefully above Polecat’s proverbial belt.
Acrobatic jumping attack, eh? Bit showy and thus risky for a newbie — MM may have something to say about that in due course. 🙂
OTOH, acrobatics is something she’s trained in even more than fighting. And it’s just the sort of thing I’d expect OR to teach. ^_^

Remember that she probably also doesn’t weigh that much. It is a risky move, but if she needs to get sufficient force, this would be a way to do it.
And ever since that day, Polecat has sung soprano.
More importantly, he has had a curious phobia about mocking teenage girls!

Screaming so only bats can hear him…?
This isn’t GOTHAM, is it?!?
^_^
Yeah it looks like a knee drop to the family jewels right there.
oof. that looks PAINFUL!!!
So, since team baddie is named after cats and PoleCat is an arrogant cub, he’s found out that pride goes before the fall in two ways.
Why does everyone think that Kid Melee is aiming at Polecat’s groin. The solar plexus is a bigger target and just as disabling!
But much more potentially fatal.
Someone’s mom & trainer will be Sooooooooooo proud!!! (and we call that a “trip to the hospital, bub!”
I somehow doubt that it will be her mom and more likely her sensei .

Finishing move !
Proper technique against a single opponent: draw him out while maintaining your own defenses, wait for a mistake, then hammer it hard.
