Maybe not *villanious.* How about a roguish mastermind? Maybe not always strictly speaking on the side of law, but always up for striking a blow for justice.
Now, wait a sec. This isn’t ALL bad. Mark built the Melee Cycle twenty years ago. I’m willing to bet that there have been a FEW technological advances since then. And now he’s got a chance to build a new one, if he hasn’t already done so. And Miss Melee can introduce Jackie to her mechanic – I wonder how much he could improve those skates…
Miss Melee: Ah, there’s my mechanic now. Looks like he’s bringing a new bike with him.
Kid Melee: Wait! This guy built your bike? [ Thought bubble ] My dad knows Miss Melee? Cool! And he never told me? Not cool!
Kid Melee: Um, what is this?
Mark: It’s her new bike. It’s fully electric.
Kid Melee: What? It’s made by Tesla?
Mark: Nope, [ nose boop, no pressure ] it’s made by me. [ To Miss Melee ] You can plug it in at home.
Kid Melee: Um, I sort of need some replacement wheels too.
Mark: Let’s take a look at these. Oh, I see. [ Tinker ] There! Try that.
My thought is that he already has Melee-bike V2 designed and ready to roll out. He couldn’t build it and leave it around, so he’s now heading to the workshop to dig up all the parts he’s cleverly concealed and get it ready to hit the road by the time MM gets there.
Yeah… Pretty much. He knew of MM’s exploits before she came to him for a set of wheels, so he knows she can take care of herself. He probably figured it out quickly after they started dating as well, but seems to be the kind of guy who believe s that some secrets of people need to be kept until they choose to share it, even if he knows it already; basically, “It’s not my secret to share.”
As for his daughter, he probably figured out real quick what she was up to, especially after he watched her design and build the skates.
Heh… If this was the Leverage RPG, Mark would be the Tech with a side of Mstermind. 🙂
Yes, the message is quite innocent. It’s the speed of the message that is the relevant part. She could have sent a message as Miss Melee if she suspected that the bike was bugged. Or not at all if she didn’t suspect anything.
Notice also that “I’m fine”. Why shouldn’t Jan be fine? Miss Melee has just had her bike destroyed. She could have been riding it.
I don’t think he deliberately bugged the cycle to keep tabs on her. More like he just had a system that would let him know when Miss Melee might need more repair work. A dedicated mechanic to a superhero might want to know when his or her workload is about to increase substantially.
As to the phone message, it’s only “relevant” to us, who know he got the first message. To Jan, who doesn’t know her secret is out, the only message hubby is receiving is the “going to be late” one. So the speed of the text isn’t a factor.

It never crossed my mined that Mark might have bugged the Melee-Cycle.
Me either, heh clever, and hubby has a few secrets of his own ladies.
If it wasn’t clear before, it’s Official… MARK KNOWS!
Yep! Its now officially official that Mark knows!
Oh look, he lojacked the bike. Wonder if he’ll admit he knows now.
“Honey, I have something to confess.”
“That you’re Miss Melee?”
“How long have you known?!”
“Literally the entire time. It was pretty obvious.”
“I’ve SEEN YOU NAKED, you think hiding your cheekbones will keep me from knowing its you?”
I love that he knows.
Hm, he’s either a costumed hero himself, or a villainous mastermind. Those are pretty much the only choices 🙂 .
Eh, there’s always room for an Alfred-type in this, and Mark seems to fit the bill pretty well.

In fact, what if the new Melee Cycle has…a sidecar?

Just after queuing up the “A-Team” music.
Now, I suspect that we’re going to find out just who this guy is really.
Loving husband & doting father. Enabler of his wife’s and daughter’s “hobbies.”

I’m loving “Adequate Purchase” instead of Best Buy! 😂
And I assume “Harry’s” has replaced “Dicks”
And he changes to his superhero identity of… Repairman! 😉
“Bicycle Repairman! Thank goodness you’ve come.”
The fact that Miss Melee immediately sent a message as “Jan” to her husband also points that she knows that he knows.
No it doesn’t if you read the message.
Message from wif to hubby.
Making an excuse that she will be late coming home and not to worry.

He knows what’s going on he tracks their vehicles he can keep track of them…He was a super back in the day definitly either a villain or hero.
I hope he puts on a costume.
