If he seriouly offs her for this, he has no vision.
Against solo Miss Melee and with apparently no training, she about defeated her. It was only when Melee’s daughter showed up did things change, and it was a loss by a thin margin.
A bit more training and ambushing Melee when she’s distracted and you got an easy win.
(Though honestly, if they wanted her dead, just use a sniper rifle. Just get a crew to rob a bank and make it outside, get into a fight with Melee and go down after a fight. The moment she stops to take a rest.. BANG. No more hero problem.)
Are you kidding?
She was wearing high-tech armor with numerous built-in firearms, but got sidetracked from her mission and LOST against a seemingly un-powered vigilante … and a sudden “sidekick”, with the result that the armor became severely damaged, function-wise.
She should have been able to take out Miss Melee with no problem.
She might easily be seen as a liability by “mr oni-mask”.
Which makes it clear that the Oni Mask isn’t interested in killing Miss Melee. he wants to put pressure on her, and there could be lots of reasons for this. He wants to exhaust her physically, mentally, and spiritually so that when he makes his big appearance he can makes himself look good by dispatching her easily. He could be trying to make her snap, get her feeling low so that he can turn her. He could be interested in making her compromise her values and possibly kill someone in the heat of a fight. Oni Mask is showing that his motivation is not the death of the hero, but something more complicated and possibly more satisfying to him.
Honestly,Mark…I thinks she was just a means to an end.
I think the Oni Mask chose her because she was easy to manipulate, not because she was skilled. An easy pawn to move into position for a much larger goal. Maybe he just wanted to get the armor tested, maybe he wanted to cause chaos, maybe (insert third vague suggestion).
But after that, she becomes a liability, a link to him that if he leave unattended or sends back out may lead someone to him. So it’s type to cut the string…
Time to tie up lose ends it seems. Maybe someone will step in to change the algorithm or maybe Vanessa will be able to talk her way into servitude.

All conjecture though, but fun to pontificate.
The real reason she lost is because she doesn’t have a loving family waiting for her at home.
Curses! Foiled by the power of love!
Funny how her first appearance had her motivation being taking down Keng Consolidated because it had too much power with no accountability.
As the old saw goes. Corruption and all that.
Is this… is this… tfw the webcomic creator appears on the screen to tell you your character won’t be needed anymore? :3
