“Hello Mrs. Chin, how have things been? Is Master Chin in?”
“No, I’m sorry, Master Chin is not in. He went runnin’ out to bring in some din-din. He should be back in a min. Would you like to wait for him?”
“Sure, I’ll wait for Master Chin. I’ve been meanin’ to ask him somethin’ about a situation I’ve been in.”
“Very well, then. Come in! Come in!”
I foresee discouragement by way of boot camp. “You want to do this? You’re going to have to work your a** off for it. If you can’t handle this, you aren’t ready to fight supervillains.”
I have to wonder how young Melee was when she started training with Chin, that might play a part in his decision concerning Jackie.
Should Jackie be discouraged? Well Melee as her mother certainly has every right to push for this. I dont know if she can enforce that though. Cant watch after Jackie 24/7.
This isn’t going to end with Jackie getting an eye plucked out, is it?
…why Chin would hurt the daughter of someone he clearly cares about in such a way.
The joke is that master Chin resembles Pai Mei, the kung fu master from ‘Kill Bill’.
I know. There was going to be a second part to that comment but my computer freaked out when I hit space and some how ending up hitting send.
The resemblance is only vague, this Master has a way shorter beard, and a warmer smile and more caring way of looking at his pupil.
Yeah, but *all* ancient martial-arts masters look more or less like that… it’s part of the job description.
Its an archetype.
Ah, the Master knows all, sees all, and tells something sometime, if he chooses.
That’s how Masters are.
Or maybe he just watches TV and saw how Janice kept calling that mysterious girl with a suspiciously similar build by her first name. 😉
Yeah. That would be funnier.
Where did Master Chin first appear?
The “Remember him?” text in the author comments is a link. It’s not obvious, so I almost missed it too.
Jesus, I can HEAR James Hong’s voice.
That grin. That big happy grin says it all.
Is he going to end up glomping her too? It’s obvious they care about her a lot, I wouldn’t be surprised if he did, heheh.
I think he’s enjoying teasing her. I’m guessing he’s going to convince her to train Jackie here as her mother.

How dare you.
Will there be any attempt to discourage Jackie from pursuing a career in vigilantism???
Will she have the time, if she’s being trained?

He’s an old master. Of course he knows stuff without asking.
…that, and the internet is a thing nowadays.
Of course he already knows about Jackie, he is a master after all! They get to be all cool and mysterious like that.
Still, should Jackie be discouraged and try to lead a normal life???

You might have heard James Hong, but I heard George Takai. Might have been something to do with the grin.
“Well, who ELSE did you think was teaching her how to punch things?
The “just outside Metrovale” killed me.
Usually the Masters are on the top of a mountain in Tibet or something, but this guy’s out in the suburbs down the street from the Baskin Robbins.
“Mom! What are YOU doing here?!?!”
