From the sound of it, he’s trying to get her to slip up, so he can get her in a “gotcha” moment. A lot more fun than just confronting her directly.
Also love the look on the baddie’s face in the last panel. “Seriously, this is embarrassing. You’re on a phone call, and I’m losing. Can you at least make it look like I’m giving you a hard time?”
This is one of those times where a link to the page being referred to would be nice. Or if there was a set of links to each issue, so one could go back and look at things without taking all morning to page through several issues of the comic…
I think the thug’s expression is more intended to be the thug losing consciousness from the sleeper hold MM has him in. Alarmed surprise when she grabs him, then nodding off as she holds it.
The surprise might be related to her being on a phone call and still easily tossing his partner and catching him in the hold, but MM is a Charles Atlas super martial artist, so she could quite possibly handle these goons while actually sleepwalking.
And now I want to create a Super Somnambulist character who has superpowers only when they’re asleep, and not fully aware of their surroundings. And they loose their badassness if something wakes them up, so they wear earmuffs to dull loud noises and have a sidekick who’s main job is to hypnotize them to sleep when action starts.
Now, is he trying to trip her up into an unplanned confession or does he just love hearing the implied sweatdrops in her words and finds her trying to pull the wool over his eyes cute and adorable?
That headset must have some amazing noise-canceling abilities if she can trust it to mask out the sound of a brawl while she’s casually chatting with her “unsuspecting” husband.
It reminds me of PS238, where every time they call the masked vigilante called “The Revenant” he is fighting a supervillain. Either there are thousands of villains or the actual superheroes miss everything.

He could also be using it as a reminder for her to not let things slip. Family is perfect hero blackmail.

Just sayin’
There is a link to the archive at the top of the page.
Also page 16 https://miss-melee.com/comic/3-16/
On the other hand, if you do go through the trouble of finding the page, you should at least leave a link to save the rest of us trouble.
Just saying.

Of course, maybe they just want the extra hints from searching. =)

…Friend, let me tell you about a movie called Kung Fu Hustle.
Let’s face it – we ALL have a thing for our heroine, don’t we?
Now, is he trying to trip her up into an unplanned confession or does he just love hearing the implied sweatdrops in her words and finds her trying to pull the wool over his eyes cute and adorable?
Pretty sure it’s the latter… he’s enjoying this too much.
Does Batman exist in this universe cause I mean he’s a hard ass but he at least let’s Alfred in on it.
And Vici Vale. And Selena Kyle. And Louise Lane.
Things work out pretty well for him!

Her secret identity’s at a risk of being discovered by her husband.
I think you should reread last issue.
