Yes, EQ, she’s a meta. Yes, that means she’s allowed to do that. Yes, that’s probably what happened to Lord Kharva. No, you are not smart enough to avoid it happening to you.
I’m pretty sure it’s a learned ability via intense training rather than based on some inherent mutation or abnormality, so she isn’t a metahuman. The appropriate trope here would either be Charles Atlas superpowers or some variety of mystic warrior monk.
Reminds me of a monk ability I came up with in highschool for DnD. The Fist of Doom! One single Punch that does a shit ton of damage but takes your arm out of commission for awhile.
In champions I had a PI with a minor combat power where his punch could have the cascading die effect of adding 3 dice for every 6 on the die rolled.
The cheese was that I not only had the effect on the primary dice but on the secondary [at much lower point buy cost] and so on and so forth for a possible maximum number of dice rolled 3 + 9 +27 + etc ….
Theoretically I could hit a possible quarter million dice at level 15 after the first dozen game sessions.
Once you get a large enough pool of potential dice to roll, the odds are in your favour for at least a few more on every iteration. Then your punches can destroy lots of things.
Nobody at the table saw it coming including the GM, when that power was used to full effect.
I hope not. ‘Chosen One’ story lines have been done to death recently and it was most unfortunate The Rise of Skywalker got turned into one. As another commentator has mentioned, it seems to be a Charles Atlas Superpower: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/CharlesAtlasSuperpower
It isn’t – she used it against the SABR suit, punch to punch, and shattered the arm (which had already demonstrated the ability to smash the pavement without damage, among other very solid objects).
Also, she later mentions that she was trying to avoid using too *much* when she did that, so as to avoid hurting the occupant of the suit – the verbiage on the page implies that should could have hit *quite a bit* harder.
Just a point to make, her ability to do this does not automatically mean Metahuman Powers.
It’s specifically shown she’s trained with a very capable martial arts master.
Iron Fist type abilities are not uncommon in martial arts fiction.
One does not have to be a meta to use such abilities, see aforementioned Daniel Rand as an example. See also Karate Kid from DC’s Legion of Super Heroes.
This could really just be an incredibly advanced technique harnessing chi.
Depends on what you define as Metahuman powers. It’s clearly a technique outside the capabilities of “real” humans, which does make it a superpower even if everyone in this universe is technically capable of it with training. Sorta like how the human cast of Dragonball Z are supposed to be normal humans, but it’s a pretty big stretch to call Krillin “normal”.
I believe the proper trope here is “Charles Atlas superpowers” which describes exceptional to superhuman abilities derived from extensive training. Jan has learned to use her chi to enhance her physical abilities beyond what a typical person is capable of and the empowered blast punch is a further development of that.
Any sufficiently physically and mentally fit person in this setting could theoretically learn to do the same thing with proper instruction and practice, so it’s not a “meta” power like the Flash or any mutant from Marvel.
If so, this means that Queen Evil and other baddies might soon be equipped with such powers now that they know it’s possible and seek out the techniques.
The general impression I get from Queen Evil is not that of someone who would actually learn to fight with her own hands. and just because anyone could “theoretically” achieve such feats doesn’t mean that some aren’t much better suited in the first place, let alone willing to put forth the required (presumable extreme) amount of time and effort to learning. There’s also the matter of access to instruction, because if there isn’t some kind of guarded “secret technique” or somesuch required for mastering these abilities then someone like Guerreira and the Brazilian Ninja Clan would have them.
If anybody we’ve met actually has comparable abilities, my money would be on Lord Kharava, because we haven’t really been told just how/why he’s so formidable that Jan had to proverbially go nuclear to defeat him.
Based on the flashback scenes with her mentor, my headcanon until it’s revealed otherwise is that she has a metahuman ability she undertook the discipline of martial study to control before she killed someone. Then she killed someone anyway and quit being Miss Melee for a long time.
She initially retired from being Miss Melee because she got pregnant. I’m pretty sure this is rather clearly confirmed in cannon, or at least heavily implied with Jackie musing that MM mysteriously vanished from the public eye at a time that she is blissfully ignorant of being about nine months prior to her own birth.
Jan: [Mental note – no more spankings, even in fun. Mark could get hurt.]

I called this in comments to the 9-20 comic back in January.
What do I win? 😛
Also, great art, especially KM’s shocked look.

Although in this case, her arm is fine. Her gloves are just not made to take that amount of force and get shredded.

That moment you find out your mom is not only a masked super hero but also got superpowers.
Did she find out that Melee is her mom?
That has yet to be revealed due to Jan stalling when trying to say it, as well as interruption caused by Evil Queen.
Hmm, I wonder if those powers are hereditary? Like mother, like daughter?

I believe this isn’t the 1st time she used this power move of hers.

Oh look…….The Melees escape danger……..again……….yaaaaayyyy……whoopeeeeeee
Why are you still here then? Shoo! Go read something you like.
Your last name wouldn’t be “de Grouch,” would it?
😆
Heroes never die! Go Melees! 😀
And if they do they either get better or become a ghost or undead, but they always come back.

I believe it was Arthur C. Clarke who said “Any sufficiently powerful punch is indistinguishable from meta.”

Evil Lass looks like she’s contemplating what a punch that smashes rock would do to a human.
Queen Evil’s obviously pissed off.
I’d have said intrigued and calculating.
