I misread Jackie’s last line as “I can finally call you my Mom!” then realised that the sound effect in the last panel wasn’t an agitated heartbeat but was instead a cell phone ringing.
Interestingly enough the gag that had me chuckle was the ‘Is it clear?’. It’s such a common sight gag, that most people just slip past it. I giggle every time. As soon as I saw the manhole in panel one, I knew it was coming.
Poor MM, too tired to pay attention, and now the all in discussion, “Why I am your Mom, and oops, kept trying to tell you, but…”. If she was a real person, I’d hug them both and hope Jackie can get past any animosity. (crosses fingers! here’s hoping!!!)
I believe the lesson here was one taught way back in a Static Shock episode.
Just as Virgil shouldn’t carry his school ID in costume, MM probably should have left the phone on her bike. On silent. In a lockbox. Linked to a bluetooth headset to catch incoming calls.
It would seem that the jig is up, and the cat’s out of the bag. I do believe, however that Jackie won’t react poorly, and – besides – Dad already knows everything.

Buuuuusteeeeeed
in more ways than one π
superhero suits need more pockets…
Welp, so much for that secret identity!
I actually laughed out loud at that last panel! I can’t wait to see where this goes.
Jackie realizing she’s got SEVERAL gigabytes of Prose, Fanfic, and “Normal School Related Pictures DO NOT OPEN FOLDER MOM” pictures to delete like
Should probably put the phone on silent when fighting crime.
Agreed. And not just for situations like this. Phone ringing as you’re sneaking up on the bad guys is practically a trope.
Ah, there it is. “Compromising Call” ^_^
Holy shit!! YES YES YES!! now this is gonna be good!
βUm…. Kid Melee … thereβs something I have to tell you …. β. π
There goes the whole speech she’s been composing in her head for a number of issues. Now it will be “um, I’ve been meaning to tell you . . . “
Uh-oh… Can we say ‘busted’?
Oh hell yes!

Next week: The Awkward Reveal
Two weeks: Does Dad Know?
Oh, he knows alright. π
But Miss Melee doesn’t know that he knows.
The most dread inducing phone ring since that dinosaur ate the cell phone.
If only MM wasn’t so tired/beat up, she could have thought to say, “Don’t bother, I’m too tired/beat up to answer,” before KM got her phone out. ^_^

Rookie mistake by MM. When out superheroing, always put your phone on vibrate.
It is on vibrate.
It’s ringing. The sound effect is a ring tone. If it were on vibrate, the sound effect would reflect that.
And I’m sure Jackie knows the distinct sound of her mom’s ringtone from all the times Jan has had incoming calls at home.
Okay, I read the Beedle-Dee, Beedle-Bee as vibrating.
AH HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
