Even if you’re a black belt, you can’t follow your kids around 24-7 to protect them, but if you TRAIN your kids to the level of a black belt, then a black belt fighter is with them everywhere they go.
Really nice, subtle touch with Janice’s hand straying to her ribs as Chin talks about the difficulties of being a hero. As this is my first comment, I should say that art and writing for Miss Melee are both excellent — I’ve only recently discovered the comic, but it was immediately evident it would become a favourite.
What will Janice do following that little flashback?
Now to see if she trains her as Miss Melee or Janice.
I think the only way it’s going to work is if she does it as both.
Maybe she will bring Jackie to Master Chin. After all, the old Masters are still the best Masters…
And let’s look at the example of Ben and Anakin, or Luke and Kylo…
Luke and Kylo is an example of bad writing.
You may be right. But it’s still there, part of canon.
Janice sighed. She’d put it off as long as she could, but it was time.
“Master Chin… I want to speak to your manager.”
“What does my wife have to do with this?”
Yeah, time to have a painfully awkward conversation with her daughter. And probably her husband.
Her husband probably knows already, but is nice and doesn’t want to let on that he does.
There have been several strong hints that he knows.

“Mom, YOU’RE Miss Melee??? But Miss Melee is COOL!”
That will probably be exactly how it goes.

Agreed that was a nice bit of visual storytelling. Welcome to the chat btw.
Thank you. 🙂
